Miss Peggy’s Secret Holiday
By Jon Lawrence

1981. Miss Peggy, as she is known by the Queen, possesses the royal warrant and regularly makes couture garments for members of The Royal Family. One day she receives the commission of a lifetime from designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel; to make Diana Spencer’s wedding veil.

A condition of the job is that she must work in complete secrecy.

So, she informs her office that she is going on holiday to Spain, when in fact, she will spend a week at home making a veil with ten-thousand sequins. Unfortunately, she has implicated her husband Ed in the deception and so the two of them are trapped in their own home while Peggy makes a piece of royal history.

A romantic comedy, Miss Peggy’s Secret Holiday tells the story of a woman rushing against the clock to make a veil which will be seen by 750 million people, while dealing with a well-meaning husband who is bored to tears.

How will Peggy cope with so many distractions?

As the pressure builds on both Peggy and Ed, the entire institution of marriage is brought into question.

Miss Peggy’s Secret Holiday is a funny and, at times, poignant play from award-winning writer/producer/composer Jon Lawrence, whose last play One Sugar Stirred to the Left received critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe.
