“We escaped into the sea and let our troubles wash ashore’

We often turn to the sea when we feel unmoored as the sensation of water and the change of perspective helps to settle and reset us. Our senses are stimulated by sounds, smells, the feeling of a breeze, the colours, the movement of clouds and birds. This all provides a sense of release. As we put our bodies in the trust of an environment so much bigger than us we get a feeling of wonder or awe which helps reset, re-enlivens.

This exhibition is a collection of my new work I have been creating under the theme of ‘We escaped into the sea and let our troubles wash ashore’, including layered hand printed screen prints alongside charcoal drawings.

I am also exhibiting screen prints that have been part of the build up to this new body or work, where I have been exploring layering light, water, movement, reflection, contrast, shadow, mark-making and colour. My aim is to capture feelings of wonder and awe which we subconsciously absorb in the natural world as well as feelings of freedom and happiness we feel in these environments. I hope you will leave the exhibition feeling uplifted and reminded of the power of the natural world to provide positivity.

Tushka (Chrissy Mouncey) is a contemporary artist based in North Devon. She studied Fine Art at Plymouth University followed by a Foundation in Graphic Design at UAL, London, supplemented by professional development print-making at Spike Print Studio, Bristol. She is a print studio associate member at Double Elephant Print Studio, Exeter.
